Title: Hebrew fonts
Post by: tomers on November 14, 2009, 06:13:42 AM
According to the font statistics page, http://rasher.dk/rockbox/fontstats/, Hebrew characters are not widely supported.
It is important that at least the default fonts support Hebrew characters. Most importantly, 12-Adobe-Helvetica, which is the default font on many targets, should support Hebrew.

Some good Hebrew bitmap font is available at the Liquid project http://www.theiling.de/projects/liquid.html.
The font is distributed under the GNU General Public License, Version 3, with an exceptional clause for embedding fonts into documents, and the author says he willing to negotiate things, so if there's some legal issue here (RB is GPLv2) - we can talk to him.

I'm sure if you were to extend the default to include more hebrew characters nobody would complain, but I don't really see a question here?  Assuming that you just intend to provoke discussion, I've moved this to feature ideas.

Indeed, there's no question here. I did not intent to provoke a discussion, but only to notify the need of this to be done.

I use this post as a reference to ask for assistance on IRC, and to point other users of this issue. I don't have a patch to solve this, and this is not a bug, so I thought it is inappropriate to post a FlySpray issue for that.

Please keep this post open in Feature Ideas, so we can relate to it until this issue is resolved.
