Title: iPod6g + Rockbox + iFlash SD Duo adapter + 512GB SDXC = extremely slow
Post by: Paxinox on December 12, 2017, 08:28:07 AM
Hi guys,

Im new to rockbox and iFlash, but have done some work on these classic ipods previously,

I manage to restore ipod after iflash install, see the fullworthy memory, install rockbox, and transfer files.
But, most of the time it times out during transfer in windows. I try restarting ipod, then it nags about "chkdsk". I try to transfer again, and first 10-15songs goes well (12mb/sec), but then slowly decreases down to 900kBps, until it freezes and I have to restart the procedure.

Now, Ive tried formatting properly through the guides found on this forum and iFlash site, as SD card directly into a computer, or through ipod. Ive tried several methods of doing this, as well as using windows chkdsk to "scan and fix" before transferring.

In each case, its laggy, and it transfers very slow. I wanna transfer 430gb of mp3's, but its quite impossible when it freezes after every 10-15songs..

Can anyone help me out? :)

Ive tried this with 2x identical models ipod 6g, same problem with both.

The sd cards are original, bought from a professional retailer in my country.

That's the same setup I am planning to build. I think most transfer problems can be resolved using iPod disk mode to transfer files. Another option I could think of is, assamble the parts, but not closing the iPod, restore with iTunes, install Rockbox, take out the SD card and transfer files with a card reader. This is only possible with a single SD card though and not convenient, when adding new files later.

It would be interesting how long the database would need to build. I am looking at offline tools to create the database using the computer. This might be faster.

Those adapters don't seem to work well with rockbox, so you probably want to avoid writing to them in rockbox if at all possible or you'll risk file system corruption

Does this also include for example saving a Playlist?

I'm using a similar setup: iPod5G (originally 30GB) - upgraded with the iFlash Quad and a single 128GB sandisk microsd.

Rockbox installing was fine but transferring files with the iPod in rockbox resulted in songs skipping / transfers failing, similar to your problem.

The solution I found is to boot the iPod either into disk mode or the Apple OF and transferring files that way.

Since using that - no problems; transferred around 90GB in a single sitting.

Similar problem here, iPod Classic 6g "thick" with iFlash Quad + 4x 128gb microSD's.

Are your respective 6g's the "slim" model?
