Alright, so I'm brand new to rockbox. I got a Sansa c250 to use at my workplace. There it will be playing about 1000 MP3's 24/7 in a small retail store. I liked rockbox mainly because of the crossfade feature which makes random play a little nicer. My problem (well at least the problem I'll post in this subforum; I have a couple of others) is that the player will play the same song right in a row. It doesn't do it all the time but tonight in my 8 hour shift it did it maybe 6-8 times.
details:
RB fw: r16859-080328
Sansa c250 w/ 2GB microSD card
Original fw version (does this matter?): 01.00.06A
playing in Shuffle mode with Repeat All option
Crossfade on (played with both 5in/5out and 10in/10out)
On AC power
Not sure what other info could possibly be needed so hopefully I got it all in there.
Thanks!

Rockbox shuffles a playlist, it doesn't randomly select songs. A song will only play twice if it shows up twice in the shuffled playlist, or if the playlist ends and by sheer change the new song is the first song of the reshuffle (if you've set it to reshuffle on repeat).
When a song repeats you can easily check the current playlist (there's always one, even if it's just the automatically generated dynamic one) to see if the song appears twice in it. Could it be possible that you have more than one of the same song on your disk? How exactly did you start playback and queue up all your songs?

There currently is a bug in the playback engine where some songs are repeated: FS#8513 (http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8513). Any help in reproducing it would be greatly appreciated!

I'd love to help out, unfortunately I have to get this thing back to work and playing music. I think I might just have to go with the stock firmware for stability reasons :(
I appreciate the help though!

I've noticed this same behavior, with nearly the same circumstances as the original poster (minus the repeat all setting). I'll keep a close eye and see if I can consistently replicate it.

I have noticed this problem as well on my iPod video. What I've noticed is that it only happens when I selected songs from the Database; when I select a folder from the file browser, this doesn't happen.
I haven't paid attention to the playlist tracks but I will and report any findings...

I have noticed this bug several times; a song/some songs somewhere on my playlist will play twice in a row. One tap on the Right (Next Track) key puts me back on track, but the bug is annoying nonetheless.
Granted, the last build I used was r16685 :-[ - just updated today to r16901, so I'll check it out later.
EDIT: I should note that I did NOT have Random turned on - only Repeat All.

I have a very similar problem on my e280. I notice the problem when I fwd to the next track & it plays the same one again. i.e goes back to the beginning of the track I'm playing.
I don't use the database. I'm not using random or shuffle or anything unusual.
The bug seems to appear at random every 10 or 15 tracks or so.

I loaded r16908 yesterday, it looks like it is not happening anymore, time will tell.
Also looks like the bugs with "crossfade" (weird noise and even player crash) are gone as well. ;)

This issue should be gone with r16955 :)

awesome...now I can get that thing rockboxed again. Even more than I missed crossfade, I hate the random play on the original firmware. I've got over 1000 songs on my c250 and I've already heard several of the same ones more than once (and I'm only there to listen to it 8 hours a day! I don't understand why, if set on shuffle, they wouldn't make it play through the entire library only playing each song ONCE. Instead it seems to be just picking a random number for the next track. ???
Anyway...I can't wait to try out the new f/w Thanks for the awesome work you guys do on this project!
