Title: iPod nano 2g display problems after installing rockbox
Post by: zlodey on April 22, 2011, 12:10:19 PM
hallo. I have an iPod nano 2g, 8 GB.
i installed the Rockbox using rockbox utility, and the first screen i got after installing was this:
http://iceimg.com/i/e1/b8/513e9f4346.jpg
the click-wheel is working, but i can't see anything it is doing because of those pixel.

after rebooting iPod using MENU+SELECT i get this:
http://iceimg.com/i/59/77/88a5e0f770.jpg
http://iceimg.com/i/95/40/c0690211fc.jpg
http://iceimg.com/i/68/ce/6363c7638e.jpg
the Apple logo disappears, and again those pixels don't let me see what's on display.

so i decided to uninstall it, using rockbox utility. Everything worked OK, but i get this after MENU+SELECT reset:
http://iceimg.com/i/f4/c4/5e7246d6ed.jpg

if i turn ON the HOLD, it boots it's original firmware and works OK. If i don't, it can't find rockbox.ipod

how do i delete it ?

First, that's not an iPod 2G, but an iPod Nano 2G. It's important to write the full model name, as iPod 2G is another model.

If you want to completely uninstall Rockbox you need to uninstall the bootloader too like you're trying to, or it will keep on searching for rockbox.ipod which doesn't exist anymore since you uninstalled Rockbox files (but the bootloader still remains). That's why it returns that rockbox.ipod error.

I think that Rockbox Utility can also uninstall the bootloader, just search for the button that does it. If I recall correctly (and probably I'm not recalling correctly), it's below the button that you clicked to uninstall Rockbox files.

If you could, however, not uninstall Rockbox for a while until we further investigate your problem... if you don't mind, of course. I have it installed on my iPod and it's wonderful so it'd be nice if you could also get it working. It's just that some days ago another user with a problem similar to yours appeared on the forums, and the solution that worked for him/her might be the same for you, if my bet is correct... I just need to confirm with someone better experienced than me :)

------

For Buschel: do you think this is another case like the guy with a white screen on his iPod at http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,27777.0.html ? LCD undervolting problems again?
If yes, do you have any idea why some screens of the same type work at a certain voltage on some iPods (like mine and yours), and others don't (strange effects on the screen)?

zlodey, as gbl08ma suggested there might be an issue with the voltage supply of your display. Can you please download and update the following build I made: http://www.sendspace.com/file/48pt0c
This build does not change the voltage supply compared to Apple OF.

The "Uninstall" tab has two buttons: "Remove bootloader" and "Uninstall Rockbox". There is no automatic uninstallation (yet).
