Title: H120 wont record "couldn't load codec" command
Post by: cbr12 on December 07, 2006, 01:36:38 PM
I recently tried upgrading rockbox on my H120 by downloading the latest build. I replaced the old build in the root menu with the new one. The iriver boots up ok with the rockbox firmware but when I try to record it says "couldn't load codec" then "encoder failer" and then it says the "disk is full press stop to continue." What does this mean? I know that the new build was installed on the Iriver becasue there are new recording options like format, trigger and a few others. I have checked the disk space and there are 6GB of free space. I have also emptied the trash bins. Why do I get these commands and how can I get my Iriver to record again?

Did you replace the .rockbox folder too? As this is where the codecs are stored.

I did not replace the rockbox folder yet. Where do I find it and how do you install it?

It's part of the installation zip and you are supposed to always replace the complete folder (of course you can keep your configuration files, themes etc. by simply overwriting the old folder). Simply extract always the complete archive to your player.

If you are on a unix-like system (Linux, OS X) that folder is hidden because it starts with a dot.

Thanks for the help. I was downloading from a Mac and I did not know the files needed to be unzipped/extracted. I unzipped the files using windows and then moved them onto my root directory as you said and everything seems to be working fine now.

Thanks again.
