Title: Looking for 1 simple function
Post by: kinglerch on July 10, 2018, 09:55:12 AM
I need an MP3 player that will save the last (approximately) playing position when power is removed, and begin playing at the last (approximately) playing position when power is applied...with no buttons pushed.

A lot of people use MP3 players for things like podcasts and audiobooks in the car, and don't want to pause and play and stop and power on etc each time entering/exiting the car. The auto-pause/auto-resume function should be more like in dash CD players.

Is there any MP3 player out there that works like this with the Rockbox firmware?

That's what the car mode does in rockbox. Starts with power on, stops and saves position when the car turns off.

I read the online documentation and it seemed like Car Mode would save the current spot after power off as you said, but not automatically turn back on once power is re-applied:

Quote
Once the player is shut off either manually, or automatically with the Idle Poweroff function, it must be powered up manually to resume playback.

Am I reading this incorrectly?

Mp3 players turn on when power is supplied by the USB connector.

Ok, then I think what you are saying is that by applying USB power, the "powered up manually" requirement will be met and playback will continue. Thanks for the clarification.

Can you recommend a player that would perform this functionality well with the Rockbox firmware? Or will all "stable ports" basically do this?

I tried it on a Sansa Clip+ I had and it is working absolutely perfectly, thank you!
