Title: 30 pin failure, boot from MSD? (Solved)
Post by: Photoguy on November 10, 2008, 11:38:49 PM
Hi, my E250 has some trouble, the 30 pin connector isn't working, so therefore I can't
install Rockbox.
I already had it installed, and was transferring files via the Msd, and I somehow
copied over the .rockbox folder (I know it was stupid).

So what I need is a way to install Rockbox from the MicroSD, or something like that.

I think you're out of luck.

Unless you could somehow put Linux on a microSD card and make your Sansa act like a PC and boot it and then you could do the file installation...

What does MSD mean, anyway?

So, is there a way to boot form MicroSD (MSD)?
 ???
Or what about alternative firmware booting form the MicroSD, just to copy the files the internal.

Not without changing the bootloader, and without USB how would you update the bootloader?

With Rockbox, you can replace the .rockbox folder while it's running, it doesn't actually delete until you restart.

How does that help?  If you can't boot Rockbox in the first place...

With Rockbox, you can replace the .rockbox folder while it's running, it doesn't actually delete until you restart.

It does delete immediately. That doesn't affect a running rockbox kernel, but it is gone from your filesystem.

Is the problem in the cable or the player?

You can find someone w/ a working player/ cable combo and remove the RAM (daughter board) from yours, put into the working, then re-copy rockbox, then put everything back where it goes...

I'm in the Augusta, GA area, if you happen to be close by I'd be happy to help.

Thanks, I just manged to patch together the usb connector.
It copied most of the .rockbox folder, then disconnected..
But I was able to copy the rest via MicroSD.
