Title: Convert Wav into .talk file?
Post by: halonachos117 on January 20, 2013, 03:33:00 AM
I'm wondering if this can be done on Windows. I'm having problems with SAPI right now, and would like to be able to create .talk files using recordings of my own voice as a temporary workaround. I have tried using an FFMpeg-based converter to create speex files, and rename them to .talk files, but my player won't "speak" them. I have also tried searching this forum, but could not find anything useful. Any ideas?

Thanks in advanced.

Rockbox talk files are a bit different from normal speex files.

You can encode them using the rbspeex tool built from our sources (in tools/rbspeex). You can build that under windows by using cygwin.

I've built a windows binary and put it at http://www.hostname.be/rbspeexenc.exe
Note that this is a command line tool, not a GUI application.

Okay, I will try that.

Update: I tried your utility, and it worked just fine. Thanks for the info.
