Title: Gigabeat S install without OF?
Post by: scharkalvin on February 24, 2009, 03:24:23 PM
OK I know the "S" port is still Beta or even Alpha at this point.
But is it possible to install rockbox on a Gigabeat S if the OF
is NOT present on the disk?  Perhaps by connecting the drive
via an adapter to the PC with USB and formating it outside the player
and copying the rockbox bootstrap and firmware directly to the disk?
Or by entering recovery mode first to format the disk?

I'm looking for a cheap "S" with a dead disk drive to rebuild using a CF adapter
and a CF card with rockbox so I don't care about the OF.
(I like my gigabeat F10 converted to 30GB with a CF adapter and rockbox,
but the "S" looks even nicer with it's faster CPU (APE?) and radio).

This forum is for install questions on supported players manufactured by Toshiba. There is a specific list of players in the main forum page showing which players are appropriate to ask about here. You'll note that in the list of players, the Gigabeat S is not listed for this section of the forum. This was not oversight or a mistake.

Right now there's not even an absolutely finalized install process. If you wish to know more about what is necessary to have Rockbox on the player, read the development information and see what the current installation options are.
