Title: Uninstall old version of RB and installation new via Rockbox Utility - question
Post by: Chos on August 22, 2010, 04:40:14 AM
Hello

I've got Clip V1. On 18/04/10 I've installed Rockbox build, not using Rockbox Utility, but by preparing files by myself. Now I would like delete this version and instal latest. Which method will be proper? Can I use Uninstal function in Rb Utility, or should I just delete Rb folder from Clip, or something else or maybe it doesn't matter, and any option is good option?

Extracting the latest .zip file onto your player should overwrite those files inside your player's .rockbox directory which need updated while not touching those which don't (config files, etc.)

Rockbox Utility can only uninstall files it has installed (because otherwise there's no reliable way to figure which files belong to the installation and which not). However, there is usually no need to uninstall -- just use Rockbox Utility to install a current build and you're fine. The worst case would be to have some orphaned files lying around due to renamed things, but renames happen pretty rarely (I remember a few plugins getting renamed in the last couple of years but that's it, and you can always delete such files manually).

You can delete the .rockbox folder, but that will also remove your Rockbox settings and other files you've installed (most notably themes). If you don't care about loosing those it's safe to remove that folder (assuming you didn't put music files below that folder, which usually is a really bad idea).
