Title: version "unknown" on rockbox daily build (jan 25, 2007) for H340
Post by: Eric Draven on January 25, 2007, 01:47:32 AM
Hi everyone!

After a fruitless search of the entire forum section, I'm compelled to post this question.  Why does the version say "unknown" beside the build date when I boot my H340 (it says "Ver. unknown-070125" at the bottom)?  Or even when I go to "Info | Version"?  Appreciate any answers.  Thanks!  :)

is this from a version downloaded from rockbox.org? or a custom build?

That is caused by the recent change to include the svn release number in the version string. Looks like this doesn't work on the daily build setup (it works perfectly with the svn builds). The number after the - is the build date (formatted YYMMDD), so you can still tell which build you got. It shouldn't say "unknown" though, that is intended to get displayed if the sources neither have been checked out of svn and are missing version information.

@jdgordon
this is from http://download.rockbox.org/daily/h300/, I'm not well versed in using custom builds and I've not needed anything beyond what the daily builds provide. *salutes the rockbox team* :)

so there's really nothing to worry about, is that correct?  at any rate, what should i do for that to straighten out and not display "unknown"?

you can't change the string thats displayed unless you build Rockbox yourself. It was a glitch that got triggered by the setup for the daily builds. Bagder fixed that yesterday, so if you see "unknown" again it is most likely some custom build ;-)
