Title: Sandisk Sansa Express
Post by: SiloSpen on June 27, 2008, 05:10:15 PM
I'm an owner of a sansa express and I'm not too impressed. I have a few months spare currently and so I figured I'd play with the idea of putting rockbox on the sansa express.

The wiki pages outline all the information I have currently reasonably well. I've been asking some question on IRC too, since I'm not too sure of where to go.

I have reasonably good knowledge of computers and programming, although I've always been more of a software guy than a hardware guy. That's not to say I don't like it, just the opportunity for playing with hardware hasn't occurred much in the past.

I'd like to get started on this and any information, help or interest from other is much appreciated. I'll continue to update the wiki (and ask stupid question in IRC!) with whatever I find.

So...I'm currently building the stuff from the http://linux.sigmatel.com/linuxbsp/ site, to try to work out where I can go if I can connect to the chip with Linux. Does anyone have any insight on where to go? The NewPort page is helpful...but not that helpful. The firmware updates appear to be in the form of an exe. I cannot seem to use the official one, but the unofficial one, using the steps outlined here: http://forums.sandisk.com/sansa/board/message?board.id=express&thread.id=1143&view=by_date_ascending&page=1 does indeed wipe my express.

How can I find out what files this is copying over? The windows driver seems to be of little use to me on Linux and doesn't allow anything much on windows it seems.

A program like USB Snoop may provide some insight into what the .exe doing.

Heya,

I would like to get this BSP too (but for another player), but Sigmatel is not online anymore and I cannot find it anywhere else.
Could you upload this somewhere where I can get it from?

Kind Regards,
Stefan

Sigmatel is, basically, non-existent. It was acquired by IDT.  Some support is continuing until the Sigmatel chips become obsolete.

IDT may be able to help: http://www.idt.com/
