I have an ipod4g grayscale. I'm running the current builds, usually updated every day. A couple of questions,
1. I swear I'm beginning to get the impression that I could drain the batteries completely on my ipod and the ipod would never crash. Some builds do, but lately I can't crash the thing when it's not plugged in. My other use for the ipod is with Griffin's iTrip fm transmitter. It also supplies power. Every day on my way into work it's been crashing recently after a dozen songs or so.
Is there any weight to the impression I'm getting that the stability of cpu modulation is affected by the ipod being plugged in to power or not? (background: we've already established that ipod4g instability is related to cpu frequency modulation. Jack it up past 2 or 3 and it's rock solid. Let the system modulate and it's anyone's guess how long it will last)
2. Does anyone have any idea how much room for improvement there is in rockbox, in terms of optimizing all the algorithms? I'm wondering if my 20gig ipod will never be fast enough to enable any of the other features. I can't enable the eq, database, or use high bitrate oggs because it can't process all the features fast enough.
Can the ipod4g handle all these things at once or should I consider upgrading to a unit with more horpose? If so, what would people recommend?
I was quite blown away by the slideshow mode of the latest vide ipod. It had 3D effects and a lot of _nice_ stuff going on. That _must_ have the power to run my 512kbps oggs.
