Need specific files for Rockbox
«

Hi,
I've a Gigabeat F10 which I'm trying to boot with Rockbox. I've copied to my F10 all the files that came in the zipped folder from this site. However, I've been informed that I'm missing some files. I can't seem to find these files anywhere. Specifically, they are:
GBSYSTEM\FONTS\FNTJA.DAT
GBSYSTEM\FONTS\FNTZH.DAT
GBSYSTEM\FONTS\FNTZ24.DAT
GBSYSTEM\FONTS\FNTZT.DAT
Also, one file in the root directory:
GIGABEAT.CONF
If anyone could tell me where to obtain these files, I would be grateful. Right now, my F10 doesn't boot, but gives an error message stating that system files are missing.
I don't know if these files will solve my problem, but it will be worth trying.
Thanks

Did you happen to read through the thread I pointed you to in the other discussion?
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8927.0
That topic walks someone through what files are needed, what to do if you want a clean install after formatting an F or X series Gigabeat, and points to links to download all the necessary files needed to get Rockbox up and running.
I'm nicer than some of the others so I'll run it down briefly for you here.
If you wish to, format your Gigabeat.
You can download the necessary Toshiba files to boot the Gigabeat. This would be the files needed in your K:\GBSYSTEM directory.
You can get these files by downloading the zip file at the
bottom
of the Gigabeat port page here:
Look for the GBSYSTEM.zip
Extract the zip file to the root of your Gigabeat. (K:\, where K:\ is the drive letter for your gigabeat.)
Once you've done this, download the bootloader, the fonts package, and the Rockbox build (Software.)
Bootloader is found here:
FWIMG01.DAT
Rockbox software is found here:
Choose the latest version
Rockbox Fonts are found here:
Click the Fonts link
Copy the FWIMG01.DAT file you just downloaded to the K:\GBSYSTEM\FWIMG directory.
Follow the install instructions found here:
Install Instructions
Read the manual found here:
Online Manual

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I'll try what you suggest. I think one of the problems I've been having concerns the fact that there doesn't seem to be a zip file with all the files needed for Rockbox after a total formating of the Gigabeat.
I received my Gigabeat (not new) with it not booting (missing system files). I've tried many things to try and get it booting, but I may be doing something wrong. For example, I formated the drive and then used the Toshiba version 3 firmware installation program. It works until it comes to the part where the button should be pressed to close the device. Pressing the button does nothing! (I think this button's "off" function is controlled by software.) When I cut the power by disconnecting the power adapter, and then start up the device by plugging it back in, the device doesn't go through the stage of initializing the new firmware. It simply makes a small noise as if it's looking for some files and then displays the error message that no system files are found.
It would be most useful on this site to have listed all the files and their sizes of the different firmware. This would make it easier to identify what's going on. Right now, I have on my desktop all kinds of Toshiba files and installation programs and also all kinds of Rockbox zip files. It's difficult to keep track of all this stuff.
I'm still not clear about the booting of the F10 after a formating. Do I need some of the original Toshiba files or can I simply use all Rockbox files?
Anyway, I'll try the files you've suggested. I don't think I can screw up this thing more than how it is already screwed up.
Thanks for your suggestions!

Be sure to read my post above. The files I list are all the files you need. You do need
some
Toshiba files to boot period, even into Rockbox. They are located in the GBSYSTEM.zip I mentioned above.
If needed, you should probably create a new directory on your desktop and resave to it the zips and FWIMG01.DAT mentioned in the previous post.
About the power issue of your Gigabeat. Is the batter slider set to 'ON' down at the bottom left corner next to the cradle connection and USB port? The only way I've experienced what you've described, is if my battery switch is set to off, I unplug the power adapter, and my batter isn't charged fully. I think, if the battery switch is off and you have the AC adapter plugged in, the battery won't charge.
Let me know if that helps.

Hi Nate,
Thanks for being a great help. I finally got my Gigabeat F10 working after installing the files you suggested and running the Rockbox installer utility. I think my basic problem was the fact that I didn't know exactly what files were supposed to be in the device. Most directions are geared to changing to Rockbox from an already functioning device. I think it would be very helpful to some people if there were a Rockbox installer for people who have foramtted their drives and have no Toshiba files installed.
The off switch, by the way, is now working to switch off the device. This tells me that the switch is dependent on the files installed. (At one time, during my messing about, it was working to reboot the device similarly to pressing CTRL, ALT and DELETE on a computer.
Rockbox looks great. The fonts seem very small, however. I had to use a magnifying glass to see what was happening. I did manage to install a number 19 font and this allowed me to see the display by just using my reading glasses which are X1.5 magnification.
Thanks again for your help!

Glad you have Rockbox loaded. You should immediately load a good WPS. Go here to download a few:
Gigabeat F/X WPS Gallery
Just download the zip and extract to the root of your Gigabeat. Doing so should place the files in the right place.
I would try AJAX, Cabbie, or Definitely Frost Box Normal. I really like the Frost Box WPS. It kind of has a professional look to it.
Welcome to Rockbox, hope you enjoy.
