The best explanation I've found so far on triggered recording is the Trigger Manual in the wiki.
Yeah, same here....how come this isn't in the manual yet? Any particular reason do you think?
I am using an FM transmitter to send signals recorded on a bat detector to my iriver. What would be optimal is a recording scheme where the iriver split timer is set to record only at night (6pm - 6 am), in addition, to have only signals sent by the detector recorded into individual files (each with their own time/date stamp) using the trigger function, thus leaving out the dead air time.
I'm not sure what your timer questions are aiming at... as far as I know the split timer is for splitting the recording into different files after the chosen time, so that they don't get too big. There's also a patch for a recording timer and you can find links and description for it in the following thread: Automated recording times possible with H320?.
Yes, it sounds like you  are talking about the countdown timer rather than the split timer. The countdown timer is not incorporated into the main build yet (I'm going to wait until the recording settings menu changes are done) but you can get it as a patch from where Pixelma has pointed, or it is also included in the REP. It sounds like you are already using it, so I assume you are using the REP, is that correct?
Without doing any testing and just going on how the code works, I think that you are probably right and the trigger takes no notice of the countdown timer whatsoever... should be easy enough to make sure there are no trigger events while a countdown is in progress....
Oh... I think I have finally grasped what you are doing... To only have the recording at night, you must be using the repeat timer.....am I getting warmer?
and in that case, we have a problem, because as you said, this uses the split timer to set an off time for recording. If during the night you want the trigger to be active too then it will mess up the split timing and therefore your repeat timer will go completely out of sync.
The only way to fix this is to time the recording in a different way. In other words, not use the split timer in conjunction with the repeat timer. Which means a complete recode of the repeat timer Â
I don't like the sound of that one.....
The repeat timer currently uses the recording time to decide how much time has passed. This is no good if you are using the trigger, so the only way to do it would be to have another independent timer counting the recording time - and ignoring any trigger events on the way. We could use the countdown timer code.... So as soon as the countdown timer finishes the repeat timer starts ie the countdown timer resets to a new value that you will set in the settings instead of the split time. When this reaches 0, the countdown timer is set to its initial time and off it goes again...hmmmm, sounds possible.
So new settings would be as follows for a 6pm to 6am recording time.
countdown timer: 50 mins (to start 1st recording at 6pm) (no trigger events while countdown in progress)
repeat timer: Â start every: 1 day
max recording time : 12 hours (can include trigger events)
Next all I have to do is find a load of spare time to code it, which I just don't have at the moment so I'm afraid you'll just have to live without the trigger when you're using the repeat timer for now....
