Gigabeat OS X problem
« on: February 14, 2007, 10:37:42 AM »
Ok, so here is my situation.

Macbook running os x 10.4.8
StuffIt -- newest version -- for extracting files
Gigabeat F40 (connected via USB, not cradle)

I have successfully booted RockBox but, everytime I do, it says that there is no folder. And, I'm guessing, that it creates one each time.

Here is a movie of when I boot:

This happens everytime and I have followed the manual / faq but I can't seem to get this thing working.

When I unzip the rockbox, all I get is this one file, "rockbox.gigabeat" :

The problem, I think, is that it does not create a /.rockbox directory, or whatever. As I said, I'm using the newest StuffIt and it should extract whatever is in that zip. I've tried re-downloading it several times.

Any ideas?

The .rockbox folder is extracted, it's just that the Mac OS X Finder doesn't show files beginning with a dot.

I normally just use the command-line "unzip" proigram in a terminal:

Code: [Select]

unzip rockbox.zip -d /Volumes/Whatever

But there are other solutions - search the forums and you'll find them.

alternate option is to move the zip to your gigabeat drive before extracting, that is what I was doing at first on OS X with my iPod. However I have since found a program called OnyX which allows you to access hidden features of the OS including viewing of hidden files. I just turn that on before connecting.

You may also be able to try
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=621.0

I haven't tried it yet and it may not work as I run 10.4 and the author says it's only a 10.3 Panther Release...
