This is the story of a problem. A problem that began when the new and better encroached on the happy simplicity of the old and outdated.
I will keep it simple, if it is possible.
Here is the Summary. If you don't know anything about it you won't have to read any more.
I Love my Fuze! Want to keep using it. Doesn't have Bluetooth though. Want to use my true wireless Bluetooth earbuds. Adapter not working. Possible Bluetooth players out there are not meeting my minimum requirements.
All was good. I have a Rockboxed SanDisk Sansa Fuze. From what I have seen out there, the best external design in an mp3 player. I worked in my garden listening to OTR radio shows and audio books with my plugin headphones. The headphone cord always caught on something and got ripped from my ears, but I figured it was just the way it was. I would fall asleep to my audio. The sleep function in Rockbox was essential (unless I wanted audio playing in my ears all night).
Then I saw a better way! True wireless Bluetooth earbuds. No wires! No more being ripped from ears! Oh, but my Fuze doesn't have Bluetooth. Oh well, I just need a Bluetooth transmitter. Bought a TROND Bluetooth 4.1 Transmitter Receiver 2-in-1. Bought a cheap (is $40 cheap now?) set of Bluetooth earbuds. So all would be better? Sure it is.
Turns out the adapter has this 'power saving function', that powers the adapter off when sound drops below a certain level. That means when someone is whispering, or just pausing at the end of their sentence, the power cuts off and then will slowly fades back in as the volume comes up again and the adapter powers back on.
I tried to solve this. I researched but the only solution seems to be turn up the volume. I don't want to damage my hearing. I listen to things where the sound is just quiet talking and then a loud commercial comes in. I have looked at different adapters, and none of them say anything about a 'power saving feature'. But then the description of the one I bought didn't either.
No, it's not the fault of the cheap earbuds ( I tried it with another Bluetooth headset, same problem with those).
And no, I am not going to carry my expensive phone with me while I am working in filthy compost, and water is around.
ARE YOU STILL HERE READING!!! So here is the crisis point. The problem that that I can not find a way through or around.
I love my Sansa Fuze. But, I was willing to give up and just find a new mp3 player that had Bluetooth. I looked, and looked. I think I have just been 'spoiled' by the design of the Fuze. I must be expecting too much.
I KNOW I must have a player with:
1. An SD card slot
2. No touch screen or touch buttons
3. Bluetooth (at least 4.1)
I really want:
1. A player that rockbox can work with. Or I need a player that has the same sleep function that rockbox has.
2. Raised buttons ( so I can feel them without having to take the player out of my pocket and look)
3. A spin wheel that raises and lowers the volume. No click, click, on a button to raise the volume, just a spin. Like the....Fuze!!
The BEST of both worlds would be an adapter that DOSEN'T HAVE 'power saving'.
Does anyone know anything? As a side question, can you put rockbox on players not in the compatible list?
