Dodocool DA106

(1/1)

MrFoxhead:
Has anyone checked out this PMP?
It sports a 240x320 LCD display, 8GB of internal storage, a Rockchip RKNanoD, it doesn't cost much and the battery should last at least 20+ hours.
there are some shots of the PCB at this link: https://www.minimachines.net/actu/test-dodocool-da106-55264.
Would a rockbox port be feasible on this piece of hardware?

wodz:
There is almost no documentation for RKNano SoC. Pamaury did some reverse engineering (but can't remember the actual variant of RKNano) and the conclusion was that there is not enough ram for rockbox AFAIR.

speachy:
RKNanoD is a dual-core Cortex-M3 SoC.

core 0:

16KB boot ROM
64KB PMU SRAM (retained in low power sleep)
320KB IRAM
256KB DRAM

core 1:

128KB IRAM
256KB DRAM
Codec acceleration HW (not full decode!)

Memory is private to each core, and there is no direct communication between them.  All in all, this requires quite a different software architecture than rockbox has been written for.  A [very-]reduced-feature port would be a ton of work, even if full datasheets were available.
