Radio art and .fms file
« on: December 16, 2017, 08:24:28 AM »
Is it necessary to create .fms file to use radio art?

Currently I have no .fms file, the default radio screen is ok form me. The only thing I'd like to add is a little radio art picture at the bottom of the screen (there's enough free space). I have radio art jpg file same name as radio preset in fmpresets folder. How to make it work?

I use iriver H10 20 GB version with Rockbox 3.14 release.

I think the default radio screen doesn't support radio art. You need to create a theme that does. Look at various themes on the theme site that show radio art and use one of them. You can have different themes for wps and fms.

If so, can anyone provide me with proper settings for .fms file to recreate exact same look as default radio screen? I want to keep this simple look. Then I think I can add tags for radio art (similarly I have modified some .wps files).

Is there any file with default radio screen settings?

You can easily recreate the default FMS (aka rockbox_failsafe) and add your radio art.
Just pick the proper tags here https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CustomWPS

I have the rockbox_failsafe.fms file in wps directory, but this file contains only text: "# Dummy file to allow Rockbox to reset to the default skin config. # Do not edit this file.  It's never actually loaded by Rockbox.".

Yes, don't touch this one.
You need to create a FMS file and load it in the CFG file.

As you can see in the default cabbiev2.cfg, only a WPS is loaded:
Code: [Select]
wps: /.rockbox/wps/cabbiev2.wps
sbs: -
fms: -

OK, I see.
I thought I will find .fms file with default settings, so I can only add radio art parameters to it.
I'm sure recreating original FMS settings by hand is possible, but making it exactly the same (same position of texts, bars etc.) looks not that easy. I'm wondering if anybody knows those default settings and can share them or maybe they are already posted somewhere. It would be helpful for those who want only to do some slight modifications of original layout.

You say "it looks not that easy" but you didn't even try it! I think that's not the good spirit to learn things.

I just made it in 10 minutes, see attached.

I'm sure someone not familiar with the theme engine could also do it, it would just take a bit longer than for me.

edit: a basic radio art implementation also in attachment.

I thought there will be a file available with default settings, so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Your FMS looks exactly like default, thank you for doing it for me :) It would take me much longer. I did create my own WPS, but it was 8 years ago and I have lost my knowledge about these things.
I could use my time to fight another issue which I described in 2006 (yes, I'm using my player for a really long time :) ) – http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,7593.msg59478.html#msg59478 I see some letters are lost or displayed incorrectly in this old topic. Basically it is about alphabetical sorting, for example "é" should be after "e", "ś" after "s" etc. Now those not usual characters are sorted incorrectly - they are on the last position. There are not many of them that I'm using, I could even point out somewhere in Rockbox configuration correct sorting "by hand", typing which should be after which, but I guess there is no such a functionality. Other, general solutions are beyond my capabilities :) I don't see any such sorting problem in any Windows or Ubuntu program I use.
