some of the artists that wrote the songs - can't understand the lyrics when asked in an interview :p
so helps to have lyrics if you wanna know sometimes ...
so my guide/approach for now (please help us all improve this)
#1 is there is a great software called Metatogger
http://www.luminescence-software.org/ to audio fingerprint all your songs - and auto get lyrics ……
I was able to process 20000 songs in a hour
it was able to get lyrics for about 80% of songs
from 20% that failed - artist/song name was wrong - so I did an acoustic fingerprint and that helped - some
===========================
OK now that we have that - ideally when the song is playing in ROCKbox - you can use "Open with..."
and select /apps/lrcplayer
BUT sometimes it will say:
mp3 is not supported
plugin error
OR for some other files it could crash OS completely or sometimes open (and display lyrics just fine!) for the same file (so sporadic problem)
:/
any idea why it does that?
I can see that the ID3v2 has lyrics in it just fine and displayed just fine on a PC
===========================
so my backup workaround is to also export all lyrics to /album/lyrics/song.txt
this way while the song is playing - you can safely open .txt and see the words
to export like so - I use:
Abander TagControl -
http://www.softartstudio.com/tagcontrol/download.htm (it's from 2010 and a trial but works - and seems to have a dozen scripts to get lyrics from a dozen sites!! might also work)
open all mp3s
select all
right click on all
export tools > export from music files > lyrics to track \ lyrics folder (or as you want - but this keeps it clean)
BUT - encoding is "U-DOS" which I think is "ISO-8859-1" and that is what the viewer is set to and drying by default
but when I open any generated .txt in ROCKbox I am getting strange gibberish instead :/
I have tried all 15 encodings to no avail :/
this is where I am at right now ...
I did not find a way for it to export in another encoding :/
maybe another software can? anyone knows?
or I think I need to batch change the encoding on all the .txt files
any app to easily do that?
thank you ...
