rockbox for ANDROIND PLEASE
« on: July 04, 2015, 04:29:42 AM »
I really miss my rockbox, now i got a phone but all my music applications drain my battery and look to complicated. I wish i could make my android phone in a simple rockbox player, I could save hours of battery and even the radio would work with out a headset. If we could have it for Xubuntu ubuntu, and windows would be great.   Rockbox is the best, im even thingking in getting a sansa again just to have a rockbox .

Nope, the current version is an obsolete, unstable, without theme, need to apply change and build it yourself code.
I would say its far from usable for most people even if they capable of cherry-pick patches and build.

list of problems if without patch:
1. hard limited 8mb of total buffer which share between audio, font and themes - its pitiful small for any theme greater than 540p.
2. https://github.com/Rockbox/rockbox/commit/6499ce3e445e1acc5f5707fd164ad5e3c5ab0a43
this commit introduced a new issue. when the internal frame buffer resolution is different than the current running device, instant of draw part of the display or have black bar surround the framebuffer area, it give you the black screen of the death.
before this commit it was possible to run a 400x800 build on 480x854 or 540x960 device but not anymore now.
somehow make the android fragmentation worse. require one-to-one build.

3. this build will crash in Android 5.0 for sure and there is no tool can trace what cause the crash.
to me this is the last straw.

That what I was told when I was having trouble with album art for my theme, but for some reason it's working now (though album art display is buggy).

I'm finding it quite useable on Android 4.3.

that some reason was a patch fixed the album art update/reload algorithm,
buggy because not enough buffer for the next album art.

to make it useable people need to create their own theme with this low memory restriction/limitation.

If change it from 8mb to 32mb, the context of the theme could be so much richer.
such as:

a 1080x1920 theme use 23mb ram contain 24 frame round progress bar, %Cx patched dual album art.

That looks nice. Clean and simple. I like it.
