I remember that the version that comes bundled with emCORE was rather buggy, especially with USB. You will want to install a development build.

You will want to install a development build. This is simply not the case. The version that is bunbled with emCORE is bundled with emCORE specifically because it is known to be the best candidate at the present point in time. In many cases users using current development builds of Rockbox need to use the embedded Rockbox fallback image in order to mount their devices on Windows hosts. This is demonstrably the opposite of your claims.

I'm now hosting a daily build of (vanilla) Rockbox for the iPod Classic with the USB Vendor and Product IDs changed to 0x123A and 0x456B respectively, which aren't currently assigned.http://caudec.net/rockbox/latest/rockbox-ipod6g-usbid_0x123A_0x456B.zipHere's the corresponding patch:http://caudec.net/rockbox/latest/rockbox-ipod6g-usbid_0x123A_0x456B.diff
Am i right to assume that if I find a way to install that vanilla version of rockbox with the patch that the problem should be gone but the usb code is not that of a external storage device?
