Sansa Clip+ 2GB, ROCKBOX serious issue, player semi-bricked?

Hello guys,
To make it short, I have a similar (but not identical) issue to the one of SchebbARN, who described his problem here:
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=42976.0
Brief description of my problem:
Yesterday, Clip suddenly froze during listening to a FLAC file stored on a 32GB microSD card (no audio files stored in Clip's internal memory).
1. I kept the power ON/OFF button pushed for 1 minute to turn it off. When I turned it on again, ROCKBOX logo appeared along with the message: "Loading firmware. File not found". After 10 seconds, the message "Plug USB cable" appeared. After plugging it in "Bootloader USB mode" message showed up. When I unplugged it after 5 minutes, I saw "File not found" on the screen and another request to plug USB cable. That's it.
2. When I turned it on and tried to dual boot by holding LEFT button, Sansa logo appeared and after about 30 seconds the message "Not enough space for music DB. Please free 90 MB". And the player automatically turned itself off.
3. The same thing happens when I hold HOME button while turning the Clip on.
Point 2 & 3 - the same thing goes on with the player plugged in with a USB cable and unplugged.
I can't dual boot to its original firmware, the player is not recognized by Windows 7/8/8.1 as the message "Connecting" does not show up as it normally used to before it froze yesterday. The device has been always safely removed from Windows.
IMPORTANT REMARK: I never changed USB connection type from MTP to MSC. Just unpacked the player when I got it a week ago, and installed RockBox on it without giving it a deeper thought. Before that, I had seen Rockbox working on my friend's Clip and it seemed fine to me.
Should I just throw it to the bin or something can be done to restore it to its factory settings or remove RockBox to install it again?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't think the issue you have is related to the one in that thread you linked. It sounds like the file system is badly enough corrupted that neither firmware can successfully boot. This may be helpful:

saratoga,
Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me
I turn on the player with either a LEFT button or HOME button held (while it's being plugged in). As soon as "SANSA" appears on the screen, I disconnect it. Then the same message shows up: "Not enough space for music DB. Please free 90 MB". Any other way to force Clip+ to boot to its original firmware or this was the last resort solution?
How come the file system became corrupted so badly "just like that"?

I would keep trying it, as the timing is quite precise.
Otherwise, you can also try the rockbox bootloader USB mode (hold select then insert the USB cable while the player is off), which in theory does not need a working filesystem.

saratoga,
How precise is the timing? Or it's just a matter of being lucky? I've already tried it about 50 times and never even once managed to get past the Database Refresh
As far as the RockBox bootloader mode method: the message "Loading firmware. File not found" appears for about 10-15 seconds" and then "Bootloader USB mode". Windows still does not recognize the device and nothing else happens. When I disconnect it, "File not found" appears and then "Plug USB cable" When I plug it in again, it says "Bootloader USB mode".
Any other ideas?

If it tries to load the firmware I think you didn't hit the right button.

Unfortunately, I'm pressing the right button - big square button surrounded by other buttons. It's SELECT according to Sansa manual for Clip+

Are you running an old bootloader? Iirc only the most recent had USB support.

The bootloader isn't really related to either of those things, which is why it should still be able to do USB mode without rockbox installed. If you installed the bootloader using rbuitil 1.4 which has only been out for a few weeks, then you would have had the most recent one.
I don't have a clip+ handy, but using the very similar clipv2, I can boot into its bootloader without loading rockbox at all. So I would guess you either installed the bootloader a couple years ago or something else is going wrong when you try to use it.

saratoga,
Have you ever come across similar odd symptoms or I am the first one having such unusual issues with Clip+? I was really happy with the player and RockBox for several days from purchase until the day it suddenly froze
I can't give you more details. It all happened as I described it. Do you think that anything else can be done or I should just give up and get myself a new Clip? Is there any chance the original firmware could get destroyed somehow?
To shed more light: I'm currently using Windows 8.1 Pro, USB cable is the original one.
Help!

I have no direct experience with this problem, but it seems to be very common on the Sandisk forums. You can search there and see if they have any other solutions.

It sounds to me as though the USB mode _is_ being enabled, but Windows for whatever reason isn't doing what you expect - have you tried looking in what used to be called 'computer management' 'disks' or some such - the utility that will show even unpartitioned disks? Sansas come with the filesystem directly on the device, not in a partition. It may be that Windows just isn't auto-mounting that. For sure it sounds to me as though the player is doing its USB thing but Windows is not doing what you might expect, if that is the case, the next steps are on the host side, not the player side. I only have Windows 8.1 in a VMWare machine, but maybe when I get home in about 8 hours, I can see if all this is investigable that way.

toehser,
Luckily, the official Polish (Poland is where I come from) Sandisk retailer agreed to take my Clip+ in to examine it, and I was informed that even with RockBox installed my warranty isn't void. I sent it to them this afternoon and within two weeks they should either fix it and send it back to me, or replace it with a new one if the damage can't be fixed.
Anyway, please do investigate your clip through the VMWare machine - I'm just being curious if you're right. I wish you replied to my post earlier, then I would check it myself.
Thanks anyway, waiting for results of your investigation
