Welcome to the Rockbox Technical Forums!
The problems reported by people in that thread were before the changes I made to the ATA drive in april to support drives with larger physical sectors than the regular 5.5th gen drive, also, so it may be that it's already been fixed
Can you please take a look at the post below at the head-fi regarding the issue with the Rockbox? You help is greatly appreciated. To me no Rockbox is a deal breaker on any mod. Thanks.http://www.head-fi.org/t/566780/official-ipod-video-classic-5g-5-5g-6g-6-5g-7g-ssd-mod-thread/765#post_9033335

The easiest way to find and fix the issue in our ATA code that prevents it from working with these drives would be to loan one to a willing Rockbox developer, probably If the original firmware works, then Rockbox *should* work as well, and if not this is a bug; but we likely can't fix it without being able to try various changes on the device in question, so, until someone who knows how the Rockbox code works, and how ATA works, has one of these devices in their hands it's unlikely to be resolved.I updated our ATA code to support drives with large physical sectors some time ago, and this resolved issues with a large class of rotating disks; presumably the SSDs are objecting to some setup we are doing or have other requirements that we don't know about.
Yes, though it would be easier if someone sent me an entire modded player (that already works in the Apple firmware) so I don't have to take mine apart (my ipodvideo is my main mp3 player) I live in the UK, but I am on vacation in the US for the next four weeks. So, if someone is willing to send one to me, drop me an email (torne@wolfpuppy.org.uk) - if you're in the US and you're quick, you can probably ship it to somewhere I'm gonna be while I'm over there, otherwise you'd have to post it to the UK.If that's too far to ship then there are probably other Rockbox developers who may be closer who might be willing to have a look: tell us where you are and we'll see what we can do.
