Skip to bookmark / context menu delete bookmark
« on: November 01, 2010, 04:38:51 PM »
Why not add a 'To next bookmark' option for 'Skip length'?

If it didn't find a bookmark in the chosen direction, I suppose the logical thing to do would be to skip to the beginning / end of the track.

It would be useful for indexing lectures and long podcasts, among other things.

It would also be nice, perhaps, if there were an icon that appeared in the information bar thing when you were playing through a bookmark, and an option to delete the one you're over (or perhaps the last one you played through) in the context menu.

This sounds like a job for cue sheets?

I was thinking the same, though it seems people might want a method to create chapters/breakpoints on the fly.  Maybe a plugin could be used to write cuesheets for the currently playing track.

Yep, they'd work fine if I could mark (and ideally unmark) points while listening. Not practical to craft them in a text editor for this purpose though, really.

I agree.  To make this workable you'd want to have a plugin query the elapsed time of the current track and write an entry to the appropriate cuesheet when a certain button is pressed.  Another action would remove the previous breakpoint in the cuesheet.  It might be desirable to steal some code from the core to display a progress bar along with the chapter marks.

On the other hand, maybe there's some interest in having this in the core so that recording can take advantage of this too:
