I had the following idea yesterday for a new rockbox feature, I asked about it on the mailing list and the thinking seemed to be that such a feature does not currently exist in rockbox.
So my idea is as follows.
Could some kind of system be developed that would allow for highlighting of multiple items, similar to what is currently possible in windows?
I can see quite a few uses for such a feature.
Firstly we already have a clipboard in rockbox that can copy, cut and paste. However this clipboard can't highlight multiple items, meaning that you can't easily move multiple files to another folder, or delete multiple files from a directory. This either requires access to a computer or a lot of repetition on the users part.
I envision such a highlighting system being able to allow you to select one file with a particular combination of buttons, then you could scroll a few files away press the combination and highlight the next file or folder and do this for as many items as you like.
then of course you should be able to go to the context menu and select whatever the action is you would like to perform such as copy cut or paste or delete.
The highlight system would obviously mean you would only have to do this once, instead of multiple times for each entry as you do at the moment.
I could also see such a highlight system being useful in other areas, for example deleting multiple bookmarks for a file, or adding multiple items to a playlist in one go.
I am sure there are a lot of other uses such a feature could be put to, I would be very interested to hear peoples thoughts, as it just seems like a logical progression to me to have such a feature.
