Hi all,
I have a 5th Gen ipod, 30GB version.
I get the "Ipod not detected" error when I either try to install automatically via Rockbox Utility or manually using ipodpatcher. This occurs in both vista 32 bit or ubuntu 32 bit.
About--> System Info, there are no entries under "Attached USB Devices", drive G: the ipod is recognised.
The ipod shows successfully in windows explorer and itunes.
I bought the ipod second hand, it was as a normal ipod would be. However the HDD was stuffed, and did not allow me to transfer much onto it or itunes crashed. Looking at the error log of a low level format i did on the hard drive, I created a FAT32 partition between bad sectors (from about 7GB onwards was ok, less a few in the middle). Roughly following the guide for manually installing linux ipod, I basically did the same but instead of a linux partion I had unallocated where the bad sectors are, and the fat32 second. So now I have a ipod that works fine, and the apple firmware works without flaw.
Before I did the above, rockbox would detect the ipod. After it would not.
The ipod is detected in device manager as USB disk drive.
I have tried with the ipod in disk mode.
1. How does rockbox / ipodpatcher / vista / ubuntu determine that the ipod is an attached usb device?
2. Is there a way of manually installing the boot loader? I understand it sits on the first few sectors of the HDD?
3. Does anyone have any suggestions or things to try or potentially useful info?
Any help would be much appreciated. I tried rockbox (bar any music) and I really liked the look of it!
If you want any more info, just ask.
Thanks,
bobcob
