Where is the option to change fonts for main menu ?
« on: December 18, 2008, 02:20:45 PM »
Today I installed Rockbox 3.0 and after reading this, about fonts, in another thread:

Usage: Don't follow the Manual, as it is erroneous.
Manual for 3.0, page 130, 11.1.2 Loading Fonts and
latest Manual online, 12.1.2. Loading Fonts:
"Settings -> General Settings -> Display -> Browse Fonts in the Main Menu"
is wrong, must be
"Settings -> Theme Settings -> Browse Fonts in the Main Menu"

I looked for that option, but couldn't find it. It is also not available under the menu mentioned in the manual. Has this option been removed since then ?

The setting name is only "Browse Fonts", and, from the main menu, you go to Settings -> Theme Settings to find it. It should be the second menu option.

Thanks for your reply. Then I must have understood it wrong.
I thought that there was a way to change the fonts (size) for the main menu independent from the fonts size in the wps.
I mean: I would like to have large fonts in the menu, but when I change the fonts size to larger ones, they are often incompatible with the wps, being too large.

No, you can't currently do this.  There used to be a multifont patch on the tracker that allowed you to define multiple fonts for use in the main menu, WPS, etc.  But it looks like it was closed.  I found it here: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/4733

The task was closed with the following comment:
Quote
This task is no longer attempting to address getting Multifont in a state for inclusion. The idea of displaying multiple fonts is good, but this implementation is not progressing. If someone wishes to fix this patch to work, or start a new one, come to IRC or the -dev mailing list and it can be reopened for you, and the hurdles remaining discussed.

If you feel like tweaking the WPS, you can still define the font in a wps viewport as 0, which is the small (7px? 8px?) system font used in the status bar. Then you can use a larger font for the main menu and/or parts of the wps still.
