.wma playing slowly
«
on:

Large .wma files (17mb +/-) , bit rate 32kbps play very slowly and distorted.
Everything seems to install ok, and I tried both the release build (9/23) and todays (10/1) ... Sansa e250 ... small .wma files work ok.
fiddling with the pitch makes the file understandable but it still sounds strange.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
[edit] after some tests it doesnt' seem to be the size but how the file is encoded.

The size of the file doesn't matter, but rather how you encoded it. Feel free to post a sample on the bug tracker, or a link here.

I posted a sample on the bug tracker (FS#9439)
Did some testing, and yes, the file size does not matter. WMA files re-encoded to 20, 32, or 37 kbps from other .wma files are messed up on Rockbox, but play ok on other devices. A 37 kbps wma re-encoded from an .mp3 song played at normal speed but had some static blips. My original files are 0ver-drive media files.

Perhaps the problem is the same as this problem.

The cause wma frequency as for 22khz is because is it.

Yes, I think you are right. The problem seems to be more with the sampling rate than the bit rate. File size does not matter. Very discouraging; the audio books I download from my library all seem to be encoded at that sampling rate..

So is this ever going to be fixed? Or is this some sort of passive-aggressive protest against Microsoft?

No, it's simply that the Rockbox developers who are familiar with .WMA haven't had time to do anything about it. They have real lives too.

is there anyway to use the previous version of the wma codec? say one from early Aug 2008?

As mentioned on IRC, a bug report would good, with a recipe to reproduce and if possible a sample of a problem file. Few devs read the forums, and a bug report is the best way to bring things to the attention of the correct people.

There are two bug reports, with samples: #9439 and #9242, that I think may be the same problem, or at least related. The earlier one dates back to Aug 4, 2008.

Because I took only a bug report and did not upload the wma file which a problem happened immediately, almost developer may not have read a forum. :'(
I replace only this file and a directory with a former file as measures and compile it.
/apps/codecs/wma.c
/apps/codecs/libwma

It is not all wma files that present a problem. Therefore, clearly the person that made whatever change is causing this did not experience the problem with their wma files. The bet way for them to be able to fix it is by having a sample of a problem file so they can work out what is different about that file.

saratoga just committed a fix. Anyone who has problem files should test with a current build.
