Hi - I have a V1 E250 and I appear to be having the same issue.  I install the software and it works great on the player, but every time I plug the player into the computer it does not recognize it (Win XP).   So, in order to plug it in and transfer songs I have to first reboot the player and switch to the Sansa firmware OS mode, and then plug into USB.  Is there a driver I need to install on my computer so that it recognizes the RockBox USB device?

Thanks!

Not yet, rockbox USB mode on the portalplayer targets is being worked on.  Use the OF for now.

PS:  This is on the front page of www.rockbox.org

PPS - when the USB support in Rockbox is done, you STILL won't need a driver - but windows will stop giving you those annoying popups, and the player will just "work".

Yeah, it is a plug-and-play device.

Ah - I understand now.  Also - since it seems that my winXP computer refuses to read the 4gb micro SD card with my old reader or when in the player...and the player refuses to read it unless in RokBox mode, is there a cheap adapter with which I can attach the card to the computer in order to load music? I paid 22 bucks for the 4gb from buy.com and it only came with the SD card adapter, but it seems that I need a new SD card reader too....

Thanks!

Well, are you sure it isn't an SDHC card? The OF can't read those.

Sorry - what do you mean  by OF? The unit seems to recognize the card when I insert it, but unfortunately I can't put anything on it because the computer doesn't recognize it because I don't have a reader that woudl work with it. Does that make sense?

OF = Original firmware.  Rockbox supports SDHC cards, and the sansa firmware doesn't.

Ah - gotcha. So I guess I need to get an adapter to plug the SDHC card into the pc separately to load songs and then put it in the player..... know any cheap ones by chance (adapters?)

Also - I guess when the rockbox software becomes plug and play with Windows XP (so I don't have to switch to OF when plugging it in to load songs) then the SDHC card would also be accessible through the player huh?

Yes, indeed it will.

Cool! Can't wait. I love the little player and the Rockbox software seems to eat less battery power and load much faster...so with this little change it'll make the player that much better...

thanks!

I can't put anything on it because the computer doesn't recognize it because I don't have a reader that woudl work with it.

It's not convenient at all, but there is a way to fill the card using Rockbox: "cut" (or "copy") and "paste" them from the internal memory to the microSD in Rockbox's file browser. I'd probably put them into handy directories first to get a big part over at one time and be prepared that it can take a while...

Thanks - but I am not sure if this reader is compatible with 4gb SDHC cards....it looks like its compatible with regular SD cards, but says nothing about SDHC...any ideas?
