SOLVED - Is there a way to modify the menu options?
« on: February 12, 2008, 04:06:34 PM »
I have Sansa e250R player with Rockbox installed using RockboxUtility 1.0.3. Firmware works great and I like it a lot. One thing I would like to change is to disable some menu options. For example in Database menu I do not want to see all the options (Year, Track, User Rating, etc) as I do not use them. They just make the UI cluttered.

Is there a way to modify what gets displayed on the screen?

Thanks

Yes, you can set up the database to display exactly what you want:

Correct me if I'm wrong...

But to "disable" those extra menu items he's talking about, he'd need to either:

1) edit the .rockbox\tagnavi.config file which will get replaced everytime he installs a new SVN, or

2) create  a new .rockbox\tagnavi_custom.config with only the options he wants to see.

But if he goes with option # 2, the Menu will display the contents of the tagnavi_custom file first, AND the contents of the tagnavi.config file.

At least, this is how it displays on my iPod... looks like at some point, the tagnavi_custom used to replace the tagnavi contents.

You can get it to only display the content of your tagnavi_custom.config. This is described in the wiki page which was linked in the previous post. I also remember reading about this here (in the forums) not long ago, maybe last week... ;)

Thanks for the info. I have tried to copy the tagnavi.config, rename it tagnavi_custom.config and delete some options in the file but that messed up the Rockbox system. All I got was garbage on the screen when the Sansa rebooted. Will have to play with that little more.

You are indeed wrong.  As pixelma says you have to remove the line to include the original menu, specifically: '%include "/.rockbox/tagnavi_custom.config"'

I was under the impression that you could use the %root_menu directive to replace the root menu in tagnavi_custom.config.

I have played a little more with the custom config file and I had to remove include line from the custom config that loads itself. This fixed the problem and I was able to modify the standard config file to only show the entries I need.

Thanks to all for replying.

The reason why the options on my custom config file AND the default config file were being displayed as the Database options, is because on both files I kept the main menu as "main".

So on the custom file, I renamed my main menu to "main_ben":

%menu_start "main_ben" "Ben's Music"

and then changed the %root_menu line from:

%root_menu "main"

to

%root_menu "main_ben"

Now the options from he default config file are not displayed anymore...

So LinusN was right!!

thanks guys!
