Archos Ondio 128SP MMC+ Card
«

Bonjour
i am a french user of Rockbox on a Ondio 128SP. I use it with a Kingston 1GO MMC+ card.
Because of rockbox was very convenient for me i bought a Transcend 4GO MMc+ card but even i can add files on it, the card don't appear in the ondio browser. When i return to the original firmware, files are appearing but the ondio can't play anymore. I tried to reduce the size,
using qtparted under Ubuntu to 1GO but the problem still the same. Would it be possible that i can use this card by modifying the firmware or something like this ?
Thank's a lot for your help

What version of Rockbox do you use?
These large cards are a bit different internally and the handling of this got in a bit later (can't tell you the date but it's been a while - I use a 4GB card without problems for at least a year).
Please update to a recent build in case you don't already use it (as the guidelines you agreed on when joining require you to) and report back. If it still doesn't work, give as many details as you can about the card.

Basically it is: Rockbox 2.5 is too old (it's now about 2 years old) to handle these big cards. You need to update to a newer version to be able to use your 4GB MMC.

Ok, I hope you got everything running again (saw the one post earlier that you seem to have deleted again).
It's really hard to figure out what is wrong for you, so I have some more questions:
1) In the menu of the newer build, could you go to "System", then "Debug (Keep Out)", then "View Disk Info". You should see "MMC0" in the headline (this is for the internal memory), then press right again and the headline should change to "MMC1". This screen shows technical information about the plugged in card, if the Ondio doesn't even detect it you will see "Not found!" - if it detects the card you will see a list with numbers. These numbers could help a developer to understand the specifications of your card and maybe help to see if there is a problem, so could you post these numbers here?
2) If your card is not found, could you try to find a link to the exact same type of card you bought and post it here?
3) Finally, how did you format the MMC (which settings did you use and are you using Windows or Linux or something else)?

Thank's for your interest.
About the first step: the MMC1 Not Found!
second step: here is the link :
http://www.transcend.nl/Products/ModDetail.asp?ModNo=77&LangNo=31
I format the ondio under Windows Xp on fat16 I try fat 32 but after i have change an option when i reboot the ondio it freeze  on the first screen .
The Card is formatted in Fat 16 but i tried in Fat32 but nothing change. I used Qparted with a Ubuntu live CD to Resize in smaller partition but it's always the same. I can use the card to copy  files on it with the ondio as reader but when i want to browse the files with the ondio the card was
not found.
Thank's again

their brands it can help me in my choice . Thank's again

Do I understand correctly that you gave it back? I would have been interested to figure out what's up with the card and maybe even offered you to exchange with mine... but to answer your question:
The 4GB-MMC-plus I use is from "Pretec" - it works fine in my OndioFM but it's slower in write speed than my Transcend 1GB-MMC-plus. This is most noticable when you copy
many small
files to it (like .txt). If you only copy average mp3s there is not a big difference, especially when using the Ondio as card reader. And I could try another 4GB card from "A-Data" which is even a bit faster, if I remember correctly.
P.S.: If no-one answered you, please use the "modify" button and edit your own last post instead of writing a new one. The forum guidelines ask you to and you agreed on following them during the register process.

Followup on this old thread in case someone stumbles upon the same problem:
There really was a problem in the MMC driver which could not handle these specific Transcend cards (the 4GB one and the 2GB as well, I think). The problem was solved in revision 18515 and some small following optimisations to the MMC driver were made until r18552. - This fix should also be in the 3.0 release build.
One hiccup with the Transcend cards, which violate the standards, is left though and might prove impossible to fix: Rockbox will not find these cards when they are already plugged in at boot ot after disconnecting from USB. But hotswap is working so if you pull them out a bit and push them back while Rockbox is still running, it will work and is far better than not reading the card at all.
