Dualboot M5...
« on: August 04, 2007, 08:27:50 AM »
Hi,

I've seen a number of messages regarding Dualboot with X5. I wonder if there is such a variant for M5.

I've top a file called m5-dual-bootloader.bin (CRC=C45B7B99) but I'm afraid I dont know how to use it or about its reliability.

Any advice ?

Regards.

Recently cdpango has updated the patch for M5 as well.
See tracker entry FS#5289.

Maybe iaudiophile forums has a precompiled bootloader version, I wouldn't know.

Hummmm I see. In fact I've got the file I was refereing to from iaudiophile.
I've read FS#5289 but can't find the conclusion. Should I recompile the source given myself ? pfff there are +10 years I've haven't compile something :)

Assuming I've got the right file, I'm stuck on the installation procedure. I know it might be basic questions but it's so far away ...

Thank you for your keen help.
Regards

Out of curiosity, which feature of the Original Firmware on the M5 are you trying to maintain access to?

Good question, but the first thing to mention is the enormous gratitude  I’ve got to the RockBox authors as my wife cant use any other firmware…
RockBox speaks and this make it the best software ever since, possibly better than any software I, and most of us, would consider the best.

Why a dualboot ?
-   I love the “play folders recursively from here” feature of the OF. I didn’t found it in RB.
-   I appreciate the straight forward recording menu. Simple and efficient. I need it on a daily basis.
My wife and I are using the M5. This is a way for me to get ride of the speaking feature without disturbing our own environment and making sure she can still manage from switch on.

But we might be out of the main topic so I leave it ad look again for a dualboot on M5 solution and support to make it run!

Hope it helps
regards

If you use the wrong file, most likely that you'll crash your DAP; nothing that can't be fixed by resetting it (using a pin or pressing power for 10 seconds), connecting it via USB and installing another bootloader (RB or OF).
There's always the possibility of a hazard, but I estimate it to be very small.

Get mkboot-x5.c and compile it (or get precompiled mkboot-x5.exe from iaudiophile, IIRC it didn't change for M5) and the OF of your choice. Then use mkboot-x5 to combine m5-dualbootloader.bin and the OF into the final firmware.

Hello.

Using informations from those 2 topics (http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15882 http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=12671), i made the dual bootloader for M5(L)

Download : http://rapidshare.com/files/76416011/m5_fw.exe.html

It works fine for me, 1 short press on ON boots rockbox and 1 long press boots the original firmware (2.11e).
