I recently made a feature request for an extra line to be added to the WRS.
You can read it here -->
http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7483This brought back the issue of While Recording Screen's (WRS) lack of consistency across target displays and their respective remote displays.
The focus should be on the smaller displays, as everything (currently) fits easily on the larger displays. Basically the Archos bitmap LCD (112x64) and the iriver remote LCD (128x64) are the ones we have to look at and decide if we want to change anything.
Currently there is room on the Archos (112x64) targets for this extra line but there is not room on the h120 remotes (128x64) even though they are the same height. This is because the peakmeters on the H series remotes take up two lines and the iriver H series also has AGC enabled which occupies yet another line.
Reducing the size of the peakmeters on the iriver remote would solve the "off screen" problem for now but the problem would reappear if my feature request were implemented.
1. Remember that once a recording has started you cannot navigate away from the WRS.
2. Also note that the remote LCD induces noise in analog recordings. (Mic/Line/FM) There is a feature to turn off the remote LCD but leave the remote buttons enabled. I mention this because I believe that this causes most serious recording enthusiasts to *not* use the remote unless absolutely necessary.
3. Lastly note that the "Filename:" line is not displayed on either the Archos LCD or the iriver RLCD.
My opinion is that the WRS should be the same on the Archos LCDs and the iriver RLCDs because of their shared height (64 pixels).
I have ideas as to how to 'unify' all of this but I'm opening this thread for discussion first.
What should we do about this? Anything? Here are three handy screenshots:
