A while back, I'd had some problems with all the controls ceasing to work during playback on my 5Th Gen 30GB iPod Video. Once the dual processor support came available and I updated my firmware and bootloader, the problem seemed to mostly go away. However, I've noticed it returning in the last few updates I've loaded, and I think I figured out that one common event that makes it consistently happen...But I wanted to post it here in case someone had any suggestions, as opposed to making a Bug Report and finding out it's not a bug.
Currently, I'm running the 5/6/07 update, dated around 7:00 PM. I've noticed the last several weeks that, if under "Sound Settings", "Equalizer", if under the Presets, I select "Default" (which appears to actually turn the EQ off), the unit will play fine, but I can't use any of the controls such as back, forward, stop/pause, context menus, or even adjust the volume. To regain control of the unit, I have to hold down menu/select for several seconds, and it works fine for a few minutes. Usually, I keep the EQ preset set to Rock, but occasionally my wife changes it. The freezing of controls during playback still happens occasionally at other times, but I'm finding if the EQ is set to default/not enabled, it happens EVERY time.
I don't know if anyone else is noticing this problem, but I figured I'd throw it out there.
Any word on when/if battery life with Rockbox might be improved? I'm averaging about four hours of playback with MP3 files ripped at 128K Stereo...Sample rate of 44.1MHz. I plan to ask for Write permissions for the Wiki once I figure out if I can join/use the IRC channel with JAWS; then I'll run the test with the Battery Bench plugin and see what we get.
